What is Fecund Forest?

At Heartwood, we like to see our client's trees at their healthiest. A big part of what we do to ensure a healthy and vigorous tree is soil conditioning and the addition of organic material to the root zone.
John has been hard at work in the four years he has been with us to fine-tune his mixture of organics with beneficial fungi and bacteria, along with other ingredients. We call this mixture Fecund Forest Mix. We stress that it is not a mere fertilization, but an inoculation of live fungal spores which attach to the root hairs of your tree and allow the tree to pull up more water and nutrients.
Just about anyone can prescribe fertilization or follow the instructions for addition of nitrogen from a soil test. The problem is, fertilization alone does not promote healthy root growth and unlock the true potential of our native soils.
Take a walk in the woods. You will notice plenty of trees thriving and surviving without the addition of high nitrogen fertilizers. Why? Because of all of the organic material that is breaking down and providing the basic building blocks of life to the trees.
Essentially we are trying to mimic the processes of bio-activity that occur in the forest, and bring it to our urban soils. Our Fecund Forest Mix is something that can be inoculated on a yearly basis, but is not a program that you have to keep doing to see the effects. Most of our clients have their trees inoculated every 3-5 years for optimal health.
